The Fenbendazole Protocol

Or sometimes called the Panacur Protocol. We follow this protocol to whelp worm free puppies.

As horrible as it might seem, almost all puppies are born with worms. If the female dog ever had worms, in her existance (which is very likely) Pregnancy causes Dormant eggs of by-gone parasites that have laid dormant in the female dog to be awakened.

Responsible breeders will usually deworm your new puppy up to 3 times before before being sent home to control the worms the puppies are born with. But this does not prevent the mothers from passing the worms to the puppies in their womb, and in their milk, so again the cycle continues and when those female puppies grow up they can pass those on to their puppies.

Deworming during pregnancy will prevent the migration of roundworms across the placenta, and hookworms across the mammary tissue. This Prevents pups from being born with worms. This gives them a great headstart in the first 2 weeks of life where they are the most fragile and need as much help as possible.

So what is this procotol exactly?

42 days after ovulation, mothers are given very small doses of fenbendazole daily, this continues until the puppies are 2 weeks old.

Because prevention is key and worms can still be easily passed to puppies from other dogs. Puppies will start their deworming at 6 weeks instead of 2 weeks and get their 2nd round of demworming at 8weeks.

We are doing everything possible before, during, and after whelping to make sure our puppies have the best head start in life.

The Fenbendazole Protocol has been around for over 20 years, (see citation)

"T. canis can be controlled by administering fenbendazole to pregnant bitches at a dose of 50 mg/kg daily from day 40 to two days after whelping."
